ROSSO CORSA TEAM – THREE THOUSANDS DIVIDE/SEPARATE ROCCOLI FROM THE VICTORY IN MUGELLO

Saturday 27 April 2019

Rosso Corsa team is in Mugello to contest the second round of the CIV Italian Supersport 600 Championship. In the first two races held in Misano the Italian champion Massimo Roccoli had obtained a third and a second place, which placed him second in the championship standings. His teammate Michael Carbonera, who replaced the injured Alessandro Arcangeli in Misano, was the author of two unlucky races that ended with a crash and a withdrawal for a technical problem.
Yesterday the two Rosso Corsa team riders were on track for free practice and the first qualifying session in which Roccoli (1’54″647) obtained the seventh place and Arcangeli (1’56″723), back from injury, the twenty first.
This morning on a sunny day with mild temperatures the two Team Rosso Corsa drivers took part in the second and last qualifying session. Massimo Roccoli (1’54″558) improved his best lap time and finished ninth. Arcangeli (1’55″950) also improved and ended Q2 in nineteenth place.
As a result of these results, the six-time Italian champion started from the third row and Arcangeli from the seventh in the third CIV Supersport race, which got underway in the afternoon and was run over 14 laps.
Roccoli started very well at the traffic lights going out and ended the first lap in the lead. In the following laps Massimo fought in the leading group, with continuous overtaking and braking to the limit that kept everyone in suspense until the finish line where the Rosso Corsa rider saw the victory slip away at the photo finish for only three thousandths of a second. A real misfortune that does not take away the merits of a great race.
Good race also for Arcangeli, at his debut in Supersport 600. The young rider from Romagna was not very fast at the start and ended the first lap in twenty-second place. From then on, however, he started his great recovery, which brought him up to thirteenth place.
In the championship standings Roccoli is second with 56 points. Eighteenth Arcangeli with 3 points gained today.
Tomorrow, always at Mugello circuit, the fourth race of CIV 2019 will be held.

Massimo Roccoli “I’m happy with my race today and I had a lot of fun. It’s a pity we missed the victory by a few thousandths, but today we showed that we are here and that we can fight for the victory throughout the race. The team did a superlative job considering the technical problems that had hampered us yesterday. We would make up for it in tomorrow’s race.”

Alessandro Arcangeli: “It didn’t go badly, but I’m not fully satisfied with my race because my goal is to be in front. Unfortunately, a lackluster start and my still-not-optimal physical condition due to the operation I underwent a month ago conditioned my race. The team is helping me in every way and I must say that they are a truly incredible group”.
Beppe Amato – Team manager: “The team has been exceptional. They all worked really well and I want to thank them for the great job they did. Massimo was once again fantastic and gave us a great race. We hope to do even better tomorrow.
