IMOLA ELFCIV 2022 – ROUND 6

Friday 22 December 2023

The Italian Speed Championship ended over the weekend. The last of the twelve challenges took place at the Imola racetrack.

Friday’s free practice was an important first approach for Mattia as it was a track he had not ridden since 2019 and on which it was not possible to carry out tests given the restrictions to which the circuit is subject due to the limited number of exceptions for noise .

The bike proposed to the rider was however optimized on the data collected in past years during the race weekends in Imola and allowed Mattia to finish free practice in sixth position, just one second from first.

Following this initial approach, the first changes were made to the Yamaha R6 to face Q1 which led to gaining a position compared to the previous round, lowering the time by a further second.

The second qualifying took place on Saturday morning and, despite a fall, led to a further improvement, placing Mattia first on the second row on the starting grid, setting the time at 1’51.621.

In the early afternoon of Saturday the penultimate race of the Supersport 600 Next Generation begins, Mattia starts from fourth position but a technical problem resulting from the fall in qualifying immediately arises and leads him to lose several positions and finally to retire.

The Warm up opens the day on Sunday and is used by the team to check the perfect functioning of the bike before the last race of the season which starts in the afternoon. The start is excellent but on the second lap a contact with another rider causes the fall and the end of the race for Mattia.

Summing up what was an unfortunate year, we feel confident in stating that our Yamaha R6 was among the fastest of its kind, thanks to Mattia’s great riding skills and the development of the bike created by team.

All we have to do is prepare ourselves to face next season in the best possible way!
